Chef David Avalos, Certified Culinary Educator (CCE), began his culinary career at 17 working for a number of hotels and restaurants in San Francisco.
Graduated from San Francisco City College with an Associates in Science degree in Hospitality Management in 1985.
Spent the next six years working in San Francisco for a number establishments including: Burlingame Country Club, Stanford Court hotel, Fairmont Hotel, and the Carnelian Room. Banquet chef for the Stanford Park Hotel, Sous Chef for the Hotel Sofitel, and Executive Chef for the Sacramento Hilton Hotel.
Began teaching career with San Francisco City College in 1990 followed by six years of teaching for a private school and unified school district.
Opened Golden State Culinary Institute as owner in 1999 in Sacramento, California.
Received Culinarian of the Year Award from the California Capitol Chefs Association in 2000 for opening Golden State Culinary Institute.
Graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelors degree in Vocational Education in 2002.
Opened Institute of Technology Culinary Academy in 2002 in Sacramento California as the Director.
Moved to Riverside California in 2004 to become Senior Chef Instructor for the Riverside City College Culinary Academy where he continues to teach today.
Trained students in competing in Skills USA for the last six years. Accompanied students to the state and national Skills USA competition for six years straight.
Culinary Advisor for Skills USA Competition at both regional and state levels and currently the California Skills USA Culinary and Baking Chair.
Riverside City College Culinary Academy received the ACF Achievement of Excellence Award for 2009.
Since arriving to Riverside City College Culinary Academy Chef Avalos has been involved in academy fundraisers that has resulted in raising over $150,000, community activities to feed the homeless, annual military appreciation day picnic at the local air force reserve base, demonstrations at public events, academy culinary club events, and local chapters Chef and Child fundraiser events.
Graduated from Florida International University with a Masters degree in Hospitality Management in 2010.
Developed and established a local ACF chapter Apprenticeship program for the Southern California Inland Empire Chefs & Cooks Association and registered the program with the U.S. Department of Labor in 2010.
Board Member and Apprenticeship Chairperson for the Southern California Inland Empire Chefs & Cooks Association since 2008.
2010 Educator of the Year Award from the Southern California Inland Empire Chefs & Cooks Association.
2011 Professional Chef Award from the Southern California Inland Empire Chefs & Cooks Association.
